For decades, American presidents have enjoyed Air Force One, a flying office and potent symbol of American power. But nearly a century ago, the luxurious yacht the USS Sequoia served as a projection of presidential power and seafaring luxury. The 104-foot wood hulled ship was built in 1925, acquired by the government to patrol waterways and bust bootleggers, and first used by the Commander-in-Chief in 1933 by Herbert Hoover. Now privately owned and available for charter, the National Historic Landmark has cruised up and down the Potomac with presidents and their high-powered guests.
